OVER £4,000 has been raised for an Abererch mother-of-two who is hoping to undergo a cancer treatment to help prolong her life.
Donna McClelland was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, at the age of 35, and needed an emergency mastectomy in December 2011.
After the operation, doctors told her the cancer had spread into her lymph nodes which resulted in a second operation.
In 2012, Donna was told her body was clear of cancer, but she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy throughout the year.
Sadly, three-and-a-half years later the 39-year-old was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer which has led to the disease spreading into her liver, bones and lungs.
The mother-of-two has been told her condition is incurable.
Donna, who previously worked for Dunn & Ellis Chartered Accountants in Porthmadog, says she is now hoping to have Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT), a treatment for liver cancers or tumours that delivers millions of tiny radioactive micro-spheres directly to the liver tumours.
“I was supposed to be having my operation to take my liver and gallbladder out in Aintree Hospital in Liverpool, but when they discussed my scan before the op they found more tumours so it was inoperable,” she said.
“Another consultant there mentioned maybe I could have SIRT. The treatment is available on the NHS to some people, but with my type of cancer it’s not, so the treatment will cost around £3,500.”
The mother of six-year-old Danial and 10-year-old Cian said she is overwhelmed after her friends set up a fund-raising page to begin raising money for her treatment.
