OVER £450 has been raised to thank people in Porthmadog who helped those who were stranded after the car parking site flooded at Festival No 6.

Hundreds of festival-goers were left stranded for up to three days after the festival park-and-ride site, next to Porthmadog Football Club, was flooded after torrential weather at the beginning of September.

A rest centre was set up at the Glaslyn Leisure Centre in Porthmadog by around 30 volunteers from the Red Cross, where blankets, hygiene packs and warm drinks were handed to around 160 people who were transported there.

Following the chaotic weekend a Facebook group called ‘Festival No 6 problems’ was set up for festival-goers to share their experiences of what happened to them.

Through the social media site, a fundraising page was set up to thank the community of Porthmadog for helping those who were stranded.

Ste Greenall, from Cambridgeshire, who set up the JustGiving page, said: “I joined the Facebook group as I wanted to hear from other festival-goers, not so I could whinge and whine, but to share stories in the hope that I might be part of a solution to things being better for the future.

“We got back to the park and ride site on Sunday and on seeing the state of the place from the road I feared we would struggle to get out.

“Having read about the awful experiences of others, but how the local community rallied round to help, I wanted to try to show that we are so very grateful for the help given.

" By setting up the JustGiving page, money can be raised to hand back to the Red Cross, or maybe a local charity dear to the hearts of the community.”
