OVER £600 has so far been raised to help a Llyn surfer, who lost his leg as a teenager, to represent Wales at a surfing competition in California.

Llywelyn Williams, 21, from Bwlchtocyn, near Abersoch, was told his right leg would need to be amputated in 2011 after he was run over by a car.

The young surfer (pictured) who was just 16 years old at the time of the accident, suffered multiple injuries which included a broken femur, dislocation of both hips, a shattered pelvis, punctured lung and a split liver.

A fundraising page has been set up to raise funds for Llewelyn to take part in the International Surfing Academy World Adaptive Surfing Championships in December.

Llewelyn, who has been surfing for around eight years, said he is excited at the prospect of taking part in the upcoming competition.
