CHILDREN enjoying last week’s fine weather were unable to cool off in Aberystwyth promenade’s paddling pool after it was shut for the second time this summer.

Work to apply a new non-slip coating to the bottom of the pool was carried out in the spring, so the pool was closed over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May because contractors required a run of good weather to complete the work.

And families were again left disappointed last week when the council was forced to close the paddling pool to carry out “emergency repairs” to the surface of the pool while the town basked in sunshine.

Aberystwyth resident, Elaine Davies, said she had intended to take her four-year-old granddaughter to the paddling pool on the hottest day of the year last week, only to find it wasn’t open.

The paddling pool re-opened last Wednesday, but the county council had to close it again after a storm hit the coast on Saturday.
