ABERYSTWYTH’S paddling pool is still closed, after bad weather conditions in the run-up to the bank holiday weekend scuppered repair work.

Ceredigion County Council had said it had hoped to have the paddling pool on the promenade open for the Bank Holiday, with hundreds of visitors expected with the Aberystwyth Cyclefest event, partly taking place on the promenade.

But, while the town basked in sunshine on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, weather conditions leading up to the weekend meant repair work could not take place.

Part of the work requires a new non-slip coating to be applied to the pool, which needs three or four dry days to ensure it can be applied properly.

A council spokesperson said the authority was now in talks with its contractor over when the work can be completed.

They said: “Regrettably, the weather was against us when trying to complete an effective repair to the paddling pool. We are currently seeking alternative dates with our specialist contractor.

"We are mindful that this is an iconic feature of the seafront and will endeavour to get the repairs completed as soon as possible.”
