Hopes are high for a paragliding pooch who has wagged his way into the last four of a national bravery competition.
Confident cockapoo Henry from Bryncrug has reached the finals of the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2019.
Henry’s owner, Amy Jones, 38, and her dad Rob, 67, leap off mountains and hills with the canine strapped on their laps. He has flown more than 20 times over the hills of west Wales and even over the Alps.
His bravery in the skies has earned him a place in the last four of the Hero Pet category.
Amy said: “People think we’re bonkers but it’s so much fun not only for us but for Henry as well. He really does enjoy it.”
Henry and Amy will attend the finals in London, on 15 October, when Falklands War hero Simon Weston will present the awards.
Four-year-old cockapoo Henry has flown more than 20 times over the hills of west Wales and even over the Alps.
Henry’s owner, Amy Jones, 38, and her dad Rob, 67, leap off mountains and hills with the canine strapped on their laps.
Amy, who runs a roofing company with her dad, said: “I got Henry as a companion who I could do everything with. I saw a video on YouTube of dogs climbing with rescue harnesses and thought that this would be similar to paragliding, which is something that we enjoy doing.
“The first time we took Henry, we spent a long time getting him used to the equipment and now, he gets excited when he gets into his harness and senses that we’re going paragliding.”
When Henry flies he always looks relaxed as he soars with Rob over the hills near his home in Tywyn.
Amy said: “We once took off and Henry clocked people playing tennis on the beach below us so as soon as we landed, he nicked the tennis ball. He had obviously been planning this throughout the flight!”
