THE 12th anniversary of an international running event was celebrated in Aberystwyth at the weekend.
Parkrun, which started in Bushy Park, London, with 13 friends doing a weekly 5k time trial, and grew into a free international weekly running event, came to Aberystwyth in September 2012, the fourth Parkrun to start in Wales, where there are now 20 events.
MPs all over the UK were invited to their local Parkruns and Mark Williams attended the run in Aberystwyth where he set the runners off in pouring rain.
Anita Worthing, of Aberystwyth Parkrun, said: “Well done to all our runners, whether setting a PB or not, for running in those conditions, and a big welcome to the four Parkrun ‘tourists’ who ran Aberystwyth Parkrun for the first time.
“As always, a big thank you to the volunteers, some of whom had the unofficial role of ‘umbrella holder’ to help keep the equipment dry.”
