The partner of a British soldier killed in Afghanistan travelled through Ceredigion this week as part of a charity fundraiser to support troops.
Ceredigion Armed Forces Champion Cllr Paul Hinge met with Thea Davies as she passed through the county.
Thea’s partner, Captain Stephen Healey, was killed in Afghanistan in 2012 by an IED.
To help support the troops, Thea is taking on a challenging ride around Wales to raise money for Blind Veterans UK – formerly St Dunstan’s.
Cllr Hinge met with Thea on Tuesday as she travelled into Aberystwyth.
He said: “Today I had the pleasure and honour to meet up with Thea Davies who was Captain Stephen Healey’s partner. Sadly, Stephen was killed in Afghanistan in 2012 by an IED.
“Thea, and others are raising money for Blind Veterans UK as this was a charity close to Stephen’s heart after having witnessed the life changing injuries some of his men had succumbed too in a previous tour of Afghanistan in 2010.
“As Armed Forces Champion for Ceredigion and a veteran of the same regiment as Stephen, I met up with Thea on this leg of her challenge from Eglwyswrw to Aberystwyth to wish her every success in completing this challenge to help raise funds for Blind Veterans UK and to provide a donating from my family.
“Thea competes in triathlon and Iron Man events so is an extremely fit lady and was over here (now domicile in New Zealand) to compete in the Iron Man Wales event which has unfortunately been cancelled so she was more determined to complete this challenge.”
Thea would like to thank everyone who has donated already and the fund is nearly at £1,200 for Blind Veterans UK.
