FRIENDS of schoolgirl Evie Hughes came together over the weekend to throw a party for her before she headed off to America for pioneering treatment.

Six-year-old Evie Hughes has spent the last few months battling a tumour which was discovered during her first visit to the opticians.

The optician also found out that the tumour meant Evie was permanently blind in her left eye.

Despite facing life-saving surgery just a few weeks ago, the Ysgol Morfa Nefyn pupil flew to Jacksonville, Florida for pioneering proton therapy treatment on Sunday.

Before she left, the community of Morfa Nefyn came together on Saturday to throw a party and wish Evie well.
