An Abererch man has returned from China where he completed a seven-day Great Wall trek and raised £6,500 for the Wales Air Ambulance.
Paul Wilson, 57, spent months training for the biggest challenge of his life, often climbing Snowdon as part of his preparation.
Paul took a 12-hour flight to China and started his Great Wall of China Trek in temperatures of 35°C before covering approximately 400 miles on foot and by coach, including an estimated 15,000 steps along the way.
After completing the trek, Paul was glad to report that he “was none the worse and didn’t suffer with one single blister”.
Commenting on the trek, he said: “There were eight other trekkers taking part on my particular trek who came from all over the UK and they represented either the ‘Rainbows’ or ‘Alzheimer’s’ and I represented the Wales Air Ambulance.
“During the trek our accommodation would either be camping on the wall in tents or in Chinese Farmhouses along the route which was really great.
“I enjoyed the trek and experience very much. It was a pure pleasure to be able to represent the Wales Air Ambulance.”
Paul managed to raise a grand total of £6,500 for the Wales Air Ambulance.
“I would like to say a very big thank you to everybody who donated, sponsored or helped in anyway,” he said.
