CAMPAIGNERS calling for a pavement along a busy trunk road between two north Ceredigion villages have accused the Welsh Government of contradicting itself.

The communities of Eglwysfach and Furnace, which are intersected by the A487, have been fighting for a pavement between their villages since the 1970s, and claim they were told a pavement would be built when the Glandyfi Bends improvements were carried out by the Welsh Government in 2013.

And after inviting the Minister for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates AM, to walk along the route with them last month, Ysgubor y Coed Community Council were told a “detailed design” of the footpath would take place.

A letter, dated 14 November and signed by Mr Skates, said: “I am unable to accept your kind invitation. However, I can confirm that funding has been allocated this financial year to undertake a detailed design of the footpath scheme."

But after the Cambrian News asked the Welsh Government for a more specific timescale for the design and consultation to take place, a spokesperson said such a project would be “extremely difficult” and that they were considering the viability of it.
