A MUM from Cardigan swam 22 miles in a week, the equivalent of the English Channel, to raise crucial funds for Diabetes UK Cymru.

Penny Phillips, 36, took on the Swim22 challenge to raise awareness of the condition in support of a close friend who has Type 1 diabetes.

While challengers were able to complete the 22 miles any time between 22 February and 22 May, Penny chose to complete the whole distance within seven days.

Penny started swimming last year as a way to get fit after she gave up smoking. So far she has raised over £1,100 for Diabetes UK Cymru, and the donations are still rolling in.
