Camera Club

THE speaker last Monday was Andy Polakowski, one of Wales’ top photographers, who had driven over with friends from Mold on a particularly awful wet and windy night to tell the group how he had amassed his photographic awards, both national and international. Andy was ably supported by Janet Davies who had also been very successful, in a shorter time and largely by following his advice, in gaining almost as many accolades. They both showed us a number of their suc-cessful images and those of a number of other members of the Mold Camera Club, who had also received awards. Two members of Deudraeth Camera Club have had recent notable successes. Terry Mills has gained the AWPF (Associate of the Welsh Photographic Federation) accolade after submitting fifteen images for appraisal to the selectors and Amanda Sims was awarded the trophy for the best monochrome digital image in the Pixels 2015 All Wales competition held in Llandudno (pictured, left, receiving her trophy from Morris Jones, club president). It was an away match this year when we took on Clwb Camera Blaenau Ffestiniog for the annual interclub competition.

As is often the case with away matches, the home team won —just. Deudraeth were edged into the runners-up spot by a margin of 12 points out of a possible 600, a close call. The judge, Don Langford gave his usual droll and expert adjudication which was full of helpful advice where necessary and fulsome praise where warranted. As far as the top marks were concerned the honours were evenly shared with Ian O’Neill and John G Roberts gaining a maximum 20 for Blaenau and Paul Stuhfelder and Terry Mills achieving the same for Deudraeth.
