A pensioner from Pentrefelin has vowed she will go to court rather than pay a £170 parking fine.

The David-and-Goliath dispute between Mary Stewart (pictured) and debt collectors working on behalf of a parking company, has been going on since April.

Mrs Stewart, 74, claims the fine has been issued incorrectly, but says she has received letters from DRP and Zenith insisting the £170 must be paid.

Mrs Stewart’s son borrowed her car to go on a day trip to Snowdonia with friends. The pair say that an £8 ticket was purchased, allowing the car to be parked all day in a car park in Llanberis. But the debt collector says the car was parked there for longer than the ticket allowed, and issued a fine for £170 to Mrs Stewart, as the registered owner of the car.

Mrs Stewart said she has been in touch with the debt agency repeatedly to explain and sent in photographic evidence of the fully-paid ticket.

“I phoned them up. They just told me to pay it,” she said.

“They keep saying that they will take me to court. I am prepared to go to court to highlight the problem.

“My reason for standing up now is because I think there will be hundreds of others in the same position. It’s frustrating.”
