Madam,
Three weeks ago your correspondent Tony Jones used these columns to state his views on the proposed reopening of the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen railway line, and I responded to his belief that “we cannot rely on England to keep funding the public sector economy of mid Wales” by pointing out that the working population of Wales (whatever their nationality) were subject to the same level of taxation as all the other UK countries.
Mr Jones has again responded by referring to a demographic breakdown of the public sector employees in the Aberystwyth area, which was never part of the debate, but which marginalises the situation to suit his point of view.Encouraged by the people who have stopped me in the street and thanked me for putting their own similar feelings into words, I make no apology for repeating the established fact that we pay our dues in regard to taxes as regulated by the Westminster government, so if you have any problems with the system as it exists, I suggest you take it up with them.
Yours etc
Sydney Jones
