Madam,
Cllr John Roberts has been campaigning concerning his junction for 10 years and is now on his third minister (Experts to examine blackspot junction). This is nothing to boast about.
My own file shows that I have been complaining concerning my least favourite junction (A44/Heol y Fronfraith, aka Conker Lane, Llanbadarn Fawr) since at the latest February 1991 (25 years) and many more ministers ago than his tally.
Moreover my letter of complaint dated 3 February 1991 refers to numerous complaints by me during the previous 20 years.
Unfortunately there is no record of those in my file because they would have been on a floppy disc which my computer no longer uses. But assuming I was not exaggerating that makes 45 years of unsuccessful complaining.
Even that is not a record because a neighbour of mine who works at the NLW claims to have seen a letter from a previous owner of my house dated sometime at the end of the 19th century complaining about the Heol y Fronfraith junction. Assuming that that information is correct, that makes over 100 years of unsuccessful complaints.
So carry on complaining, Cllr Roberts. I hope you succeed, but my own experience makes me pessimistic concerning your prospects of success.
The A44/Heol y Fronfraith junction beats all competitors for danger: no speed limit on the A44 at that point, nil visibility to the right, idiotic speeds from the left, no pavements, no double white lines.
Residents on the lane and those in the know only avoid death by never venturing out of the junction onto the A44. Beat that councillor.
Yours etc,
Hywel Moseley, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth.
