AN ABERYSTWYTH classic car collector has won top prize at a car show with his 1966 Mini Cooper which once belonged to Lawrence of Arabia star Peter O’Toole.

David Boswell, who also owns another Mini which formerly belonged to Princess Margaret, recently won Best Mini in Show at Minis on the Prom 2016, a show which used to be held on Aberystwyth Promenade but is now held in Aberaeron.

Peter O’Toole, who died in 2013, aged 81, was nominated for an Oscar for best leading actor eight times for his roles in several notable films, including as T E Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Lion in Winter (1968) and The Ruling Class (1972).

Despite not winning an award for any of his eight nominations, O’Toole did win an honorary Oscar in 2003, and was nominated for his last Oscar as late as 2007.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Mr Boswell, who lives in Penparcau but works from a garage in Glanyrafon Industrial Estate, described how he came into the possession of such a piece of history.

“I work for lots of celebrities on their classic cars,” said Mr Boswell. “Somebody who worked for him was from Wales and told him about me."
