A petition calling for safety improvements at a Meirionnydd accident blackspot has received over 5,000 signatures – meaning the issue will be discussed in the Senedd.
Two fatal collisions have taken place on the stretch of the main A487 between Gellilydan and Maentwrog in the last two years.
In January 2018, six-month-old Mili Wyn Ginniver and her aunt Anna Williams, 22, died when their car collided with a lorry near Gellilydan.
And in July last year, Fflur Green, 24, from Trawsfynydd, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the A487 between Gellilydan and Maentwrog.
Elfed Powell Roberts (pictured, inset), county councillor for Trawsfynydd, said he is pleased the hard work of getting the issue talked about in the Senedd has paid off.
He said: “I have been working non-stop to make the road safer. The Welsh Assembly has at last finished the report on the road - from Oakely drive all the way to just past the Oakely Arms - with improvements and a 40mph speed limit recommended, but no ‘average-speed cameras’.”
And the petition is calling for further improvements to the northern section of the accident-prone stretch of carriageway.
