A MACHYNLLETH physiotherapist who spent 10 weeks working with disabled children in Lesotho is returning to the country.

Jan Jeffrey, who lives in Aberdyfi, spent 10 weeks working in orphanages in Lesotho through the International Learning Opportunities programme last year and will return to Lesotho in February through Dolen Cymru, a charity that helps build links between Wales and Lesotho.

Jan works in the outpatient department at Machynlleth Hospital and said that her experience of Lesotho had shown the huge difference between health services in the two countries.

She said: “Last year I was supported by the Wales for Africa programme and sent out on the International Learning Opportunities programme to do physiotherapy with disabled children in Lesotho, working in orphanages for 10 weeks.

“This year I will be sent by the Dolen Cymru link for 10 weeks and fly out to Lesotho on 9 February.

“It’s quite different to working in the Welsh NHS, but at least there are no queues, as there is no health service.”

During her work in Lesotho last year, Jan wrote a series of blogs about her experience and said she will be posting blogs during this trip too. They are available at janphysio.blogspot.co.uk.
