A housing association is to push ahead with plans to build 19 homes in Penrhyncoch despite a pre-planning consultation exercise receiving dozens of objections.
The Wales and West Housing Association wants to build the houses on a farmer’s field on the main Pendam road through the village, between Horeb Chapel and the Mid Wales Travel garage.
While permission has already been granted for a six-home development for the Penybanc site, WWHA launched a pre-planning consultation for a much larger scheme, including four three-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom bungalows and eight one-bedroom flats.
Despite the social housing scheme being the subject of 37 letters of objection, WWHA have pushed ahead with the plans and have now submitted a full application to Ceredigion council.
Objections have to be sent to the county council by 31 January, either by emailing [email protected] or by writing to the council’s planning department at Penmorfa, Aberaeron.
Objections include the access road to site being too narrow; that the development is detrimental to surrounding neighbours; overdevelopment of the village; increased traffic; and concerns over the Welsh language.
Trefeurig Community Council “objects to the development in its current form”, saying “there are too many units proposed which would change the character of the village”.
It has called for the scheme to be reduced in size “to allow bigger gardens and more parking space”, and for the addition of a “green amenity area”, and a pavement to ensure residents’ safety.
Asbri planning, acting on behalf of WWHA in the application, said that the original scheme has been changed from 20 homes to 19 to assuage some concerns over the development.
Asbri’s report also says that the scale of the proposal is “not large enough to warrant” a green amenity space for residents.
