A PWLLHELI man has hit out at a housing association which has ordered him to take down a shed used to house his disabled wife’s mobility scooter.
Alun Roberts, who lives in a Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd-owned house on Morfa Garreg, built his wooden shed in May 2015 for a mobility scooter, belonging to his wife Tania, who suffers with chronic back pain, as he claims there is not enough room for it inside his home.
Mr Roberts reduced the size of the shed in December 2015 after CCG officers visited his home, but 10 months later he received a letter from the housing association asking him to further reduce the size of the shed or to take it down.
The father-of-four said it is vital that his family has the shed to keep the mobility scooter inside for his wife, who heavily relies on it for her independence.
“My wife is disabled and I am her carer. She can’t go anywhere unless I am there, so that is why she wants the scooter, so she can have a bit of independence.”
He said: “When I first built the shed I didn’t ask for permission from CCG as I didn’t realise I needed permission for it in my garden.
“It wasn’t until October last year when a CCG officer came round saying they’d received an anonymous complaint about the shed that I knew I had to ask for permission.”
