ANGRY residents in Garndolbenmaen have accused a housing association of not doing enough to accommodate local people.
The fall-out in the Dwyfor village comes after a family from outside the county recently moved into a four-bedroom property in the village.
Garndolbenmaen resident, Prydwen Ireland, said CCG’s housing allocation policy is causing “disastrous consequences” in the community.
She said: “In the last 10 years, to my knowledge, only one house has been let to a local person. This has resulted in a drop from 90 per cent of residents being Welsh speakers 15 years ago to 65 per cent today. The whole demographic of Garndolbenmaen has been ruined.”
A public meeting is now being organised in the village to raise the matter and there are calls for a review of housing allocation policies.
Cllr Steve Churchman, who represents Garndolbenmaen on Gwynedd Council, said an urgent review of the housing allocation policy needs to be carried out.
A spokesperson for CCG said: “Gwynedd Council’s Housing Options Team administrate the housing register in Gwynedd on behalf of CCG (and North Wales Housing and GrWp Cynefin) as part of the Gwynedd Common Housing Register Partnership.
“Homes are let according to the Gwynedd Housing Allocation policy. This policy is a simple points-based scheme which awards points according to applicants’ circumstances."
