PLANS for a new retirement home in Pwllheli could be refused unless developers can ensure that their new venture will not harm bats on site.

The applicant, McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles, wants to demolish the town’s former veterinary building on land by Ala Cottage, on Ala Road, and create 17 one-bedroom apartments and 13 two-bedroom apartments to cater for the over-60s. The application also includes communal facilities, landscaping and car parking.

Natural Resources Wales has objected to the plans on flood risk grounds and said further attention needs to be made to the plans to protect bats on site.

Concerns have also been raised by Pwllheli Town Council, which was keen to ensure that there were affordable units within the plans or that the developers should pay towards the construction of affordable houses on another site.
