EXCITEMENT is building in Penparcau after work began on the new £650,000 community centre.
After Penparcau Community Forum secured £490,000 from the Welsh Government before Christmas, with another £150,000 coming from the People’s Health Trust, designs prepared by architect David Thomas of Catlina Architecture, Aberystwyth, were presented to residents.
Plans include a “community heritage café” and outdoor sitting area, a training and education room, a training kitchen, a community office, heritage exhibition area, changing rooms, public toilets, all incorporated around the existing boxing club and fitness room.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, PCF co-ordinator Bryn Jones said that, while there was not much to see at present, it was exciting times for the village.
“Things are flying,” he said. “We had contractors on site about two weeks ago. At the moment, they are just digging out holes and footings.
“But we are hoping in the next week or so to see footings and slabs in place, so we will begin to get an idea of how it will look, and the contractors will try and get the structure up before Christmas."
