CEREDIGION councillors want to see changes to the county’s planning system after a review of the Local Development Plan was launched.
A consultation has begun into a review of the LDP and a replacement plan as part of the process of putting in place a plan to guide development in the county.
That has been welcomed by councillors who have insisted they want to see major changes to how planning applications are dealt with in Ceredigion.
Cllr Gareth Lloyd, the Cabinet member for economic and community development, said it was important that councillors attended workshops to raise issues that they want to see addressed in the new plan.
He said: “I think all the matters that each councillor has for their own ward is what needs to be discussed during the review and for preparing a new plan.
“These points are something that need to be raised in the workshops so that we can make decisions and recommendations in regard to the new plan.”
There was criticism from a range of councillors over the LDP which they said allowed development in some areas, but not in others and had made it increasingly difficult for local residents to be able to build houses in villages.
Cllr Alun Lloyd Jones said: “I’ll be glad to see the LDP review myself. I don’t agree with several things that are happening.
“What I do feel with regard to this is we cannot look after our local people, our own people."
