Concerns are being expressed about what is thought to be the largest residential housing planning application ever submitted in Lampeter.

The outline application, which will shortly come before Ceredigion planners, relates to 95 houses and a new road at Maesyderi.

But town deputy mayor Cllr Rob Phillips has warned that, if approved, the scheme could lead to a 10 per cent growth in the size of the town.

The outline planning application - for a residential development of up to 95 units and associated works, with strategic access points off Bryn Steffan and Maesyderi - has been lodged by D M Evans, D C Evans and M Evans, and the agent is Geraint John of Cardiff-based firm Geraint John Planning Ltd, who were consultants on Lampeter’s controversial Bryn Road development and are currently involved in the move to turn the function room of Aberaeron’s Feathers Royal Hotel into a convenience store.

“My main concerns are the scale of the development, access and rainwater run-off,” Cllr Phillips told the Cambrian News, ahead of a public meeting at the Victoria Hall at 7pm tomorrow.

“Lampeter does need new houses - we want the town to grow - and being within the town boundary, this is a good site for development.”
