CARDIGAN’S Morgan Street office can be retained to provide a new library and office space for staff.

But this will lead to a reduction in the size of the town’s library, council Cabinet members have heard.

The Cabinet had wanted to sell off the Morgan Street building and instead move staff based there to the upper floors of Canolfan Teifi where the current library is located.

However, that plan was scrapped following opposition from the full council and Huw Morgan, the highways director, said plans had now been drawn up that would allow the authority to keep the building and provide a library for the town and office accommodation for staff.

That would mean giving up the council’s lease on Canolfan Teifi and finding between £80,000 and £90,000 for renovation plans for Morgan Street.

Under the proposal the council would provide a new library on the ground floor of the Morgan Street office which will also see a combined library desk, council cash office and front of house area.

There will also be office space for integrated care team staff until the new Cardigan Integrated Care Centre is open.

But Mr Morgan said: “The floor area of the library facility will be reduced - there is no necessity to provide an alternative library of the same size as that currently provided for at Canolfan Teifi.
