SNOWDONIA National Park has said the demolition of a “disgraceful eyesore of a building” in Harlech is “unlikely to happen quickly or easily” as a petition calling for action is launched.
Owners of the dilapidated St David’s Hotel in Harlech were issued with an order in December 2015 to demolish the hotel, which has been empty since around 2007, by 18 April.
A spokeswoman for Snowdonia National Park Authority told the Cambrian News that the authority “had been extremely concerned about the condition of St David’s Hotel for some time”.
“In December 2015 the authority presented an order to demolish the building.
“The owners have until 18 April to comply with this order.
“In the meantime, the authority has sought legal advice regarding the options available to progress the matter.
“The authority is doing all it can to try and remedy this complicated situation, although, due to a complicated legal process, high demolition costs and a landowner who is registered abroad, the demolition of the building is unlikely to happen quickly or easily once the enforcement deadline is reached.”
Residents and tourists to Harlech have been signing a petition calling for the demolition of the hotel, along with the nearby dilapidated Coleg Harlech accommodation block.
