DEMOLITION work has begun on the former Hafod y Gest care home in Porthmadog, which is being transformed into a new extra care housing scheme.
Anwyl Construction has begun demolishing the former care home to make way for the new £8.5m project, which is being developed by Grwp Cynefin housing association in partnership with Gwynedd Council.
Demolition work is due to continue until the end of May.
The Hafod y Gest redevelopment will feature 40 modern, one and two bedroom apartments for elderly people offering 24-hour on site care.
It will also have a community hub, including activity and hobbies rooms, fitness, beauty and therapy rooms, a lounge and a restaurant. These facilities will also be made available to older people from the wider Porthmadog community.
