‘Fed-up’ residents promised four housing association properties in Harlech have been waiting nine months to move into their new homes, leaving them in limbo and one tenant living in a caravan.
According to one frustrated tenant, people were allocated houses on Nant Road (right) in January and had been due to move in at the end of February.
But the houses have remained empty ever since, with many would-be tenants fearing they won’t be able to move in before Christmas.
Grwp Cynefin, the housing association behind the properties, told the Cambrian News that the reason the tenants can’t move in is because of a delay regarding “legal and official documentation”.
But the properties fall under the jurisdiction of the Snowdonia National Park Authority who told us that the issue concerns planning permission for chimneys and sheds.
A Grwp Cynefin spokesperson said: “We are working with the developer to progress official handover of these homes to Grwp Cynefin, so that we can let the houses to the applicants.
“We share the applicants’ disappointment at the delay, and we are working hard to progress legal and official documentations in order that Grwp Cynefin can let the houses. Discussions will continue with the applicants and updates given as soon as practically possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
Another concerned would-be resident told the Cambrian News about their wait to move into the new property.
The tenant, who didn’t want to be named, said: “We were shortlisted for a house in October, we got it in January and we received a moving in date of 24 February. They haven’t been in contact once, we’ve needed to ring them to find anything out. It’s really sad, we’ve all got children. I know one girl who is staying in a caravan.”
