LONG-ABANDONED offices could be turned into apartments under plans submitted to Gwynedd Council planners.

JTD Construction Ltd has applied for permission to convert the former Cymdeithas Tai Eryri offices on Park Square, Blaenau Ffestiniog, into four apartments.

The three-storey building has been described as empty for several years, displaying evidence of “significant degradation” which is blamed on a lack of routine maintenance.

According to the plans, the proposed development will include the external repair and refurbishment of the building without altering the frontage.

The design and access statement accompanying the application, says: “The proposal is to undertake a scheme of conversion and renovation of the existing building in order to provide four apartments which are to be predominantly aimed at single, young persons for which there is a significant demand in this area.

“In summary, the proposed development will provide much needed residential accommodation within a vacant commercial building in a residential area and maintain the character and form of the existing built development in the area generally in order to successfully assimilate the proposed development in to the surroundings.”
