An Aberystwyth hotel gutted in an arson attack that left one guest dead could be turned into flats under new plans by the owner.
Emyr Davies, the owner of Ty Belgrave on Marine Terrace, has lodged plans with Ceredigion County Council that would see the devastated building rebuilt, but turned into flats instead of a hotel.
Ty Belgrave suffered massive damage during the fire on 25 July last year which saw guest Juozas Tunaitis killed and major injuries suffered by another guest, Richard Simnett, who fell while trying to escape the blaze with his family.
Damion Harris admitted starting the fire, but said he could not remember why he had done it. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison after admitting manslaughter, arson and causing grievous bodily harm.
Hotelier Mr Davies has now submitted planning applications, including a listed building consent application, for works that would rebuild the hotel building, and see it converted into four flats.
There are no timescales or details about cost within the application papers.
