A FORMER hotel where the guests included Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Kylie Minogue and Nigel Mansell is once again up for sale.
This time the asking price for Maes y Neuadd at Talsarnau, near Harlech, is £750,000 – more than double what it sold for three years ago.
The property is steeped in history, the land having originally been gifted by the King to the Lord Lieutenant of Merionethshire where, as a Royalist estate, it was visited several times by Oliver Cromwell.
From the mid 17th century it was the main home of the Wynn family until the mid 20th century, when it was converted into a 16-bedroom hotel.
It became established as one of the top country hotels in Wales, but its reputation declined and it closed six years ago.
In 2015, it was sold for £350,000.
The Grade II listed property is said to be haunted and the poet Robert Graves, whose wife was a member of the family which owned it, once described it as “much haunted”.
Since 2015, the property has undergone extensive repairs including a complete rewiring and replumbing.
In addition to the main building, the sale includes a coach house, walled garden and about six acres of land.
It is being sold by Chester agents Strutt and Parker, who state: “There is great scope for commercial or residential usage in line with its previous history or a fresh vision for the future.”
