ABERYSTWYTH town councillors are objecting to plans to change a housing development scheme on a former boatyard in Trefechan which they say will spoil the view of existing nearby residents.

The development of land on the site of the old railway line between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen has been granted permission already, but adapted plans have now been lodged with the council.

The new plans would result in the footprint of two blocks of flats and maisonettes reduced, but would lead to an increase in height of the flats and a change to the pitch of the roof.

That has led to concerns from councillors on the effect it would have on houses in Cwrt yr Angor.

Cllr Alun Williams said: “My big concern about this is height. My concern is there is a fantastic view from Dinas Terrace, and I know that residents don’t have a right to a view, but there is a wonderful view.”

Local councillor Martin Shewring said residents were concerned about the change in height, but despite planning permission already being granted for a scheme were still unhappy as they believe it constitutes over-development with further concerns about parking and drainage at the site.

The council has said it will not decide on whether to sell the land to the developer until after a report into proposals to reinstate the railway line between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen.
