Permission has been granted to convert a Grade II listed building near the Old College in Aberystwyth into six flats.
The end terrace building on Laura Place, number 9, will be converted into flats after the scheme was given the go-ahead despite concerns over car parking and a loss of green space.
The scheme will see the conversion of the main building and garage into six self-contained apartments along with the demolition of part of the existing boundary wall to accommodate a relocated site access, along with formation of car parking in part of the garden.
Aberystwyth Town Council called for the development to have a designated area for refuse storage and a cycle parking area.
The council also objected to the car parking area requiring the felling of several mature trees.
“The destruction of much of the garden space would limit the green space available to residents,” the council said.
Neighbours at 8 Laura Place also raised objections over the soundproofing qualities on the party wall.
The building, sold off by Aberystwyth University, has been vacant for two years after previously housing university staff offices.
A planning Heritage Statement report said that “the main house and its boundary walls will remain untouched and unaffected (from a construction perspective)”.
