The mayor of Lampeter has given the thumbs-up to a scheme aimed at improving the town’s Market Street.
Ceredigion County Council is bidding for a share of a £5m Welsh Government grant with the aim of improving the town for pedestrians.
The Lampeter Green Corridor plan would involve a 600-metre path from the Pont Steffan Business Park to the Sainsbury’s store, going through the university at a cost of around £100,000.
The £200,000 Market Street scheme would remove on-street parking and plant trees, creating small bay areas that could be used for market stalls.
“I’ve only had a brief look at the proposals but in principle I’m happy with what is proposed,” Cllr Rob Phillips told the Cambrian News.
“The Market Street area is somewhere that we’ve recognised needs improving, and greening the area will improve the street environment, create a new flexible space and help make Lampeter a more environmentally-friendly town.
“We did pass a climate emergency motion a few months back and this is a practical example of action to green the town. It also shows the value of the Place Plan which we’ve put together.
“This project was picked up from the Place Plan when a funding stream became available from the Welsh Government.”
