PLANNING chiefs have dismissed a complaint that an Aberystwyth homeowner breached planning rules by demolishing a garden wall in front of a house in a conservation area.

The authority had launched an investigation following a complaint that work to remove the garden wall of the property in North Road had broken planning rules by not seeking planning permission.

However, the council has now confirmed that it is satisfied that no rules were broken at the property called Wern.

But the council is still looking at work carried out at a neighbouring property.

The county council said that, following a meeting between the first homeowner and planning officers, no planning regulations had been breached.

A spokesperson said: “Following investigation into reports of works undertaken at Wern, North Road, it is the opinion of the Local Planning Authority that conservation area consent was not required for the partial removal of the wall.

“The enforcement case is now closed and no further action will be undertaken in relation to Wern.

“The local planning authority is still investigating as to whether any breach of planning has occurred at another property.”

The owner of Wern, who has asked not to be named, said he had been in discussions with planning officers before any work was started and was always confident that no rules had been broken.
