THE OWNER of a prime Aberystwyth seafront building labelled an “eyesore” has been slapped with an enforcement notice ordering him to bring the building up to scratch.

Ceredigion council has issued a section 215 order for the former Deva nursing home, bought by local businessman Vince Morgans in 2011.

The listed building on Marine Terrace has been left boarded up since the home closed in 2006 and the lease was surrendered back to Ceredigion council.

Plans were approved in 2010 to turn the building, which is next to the Premier Inn development and opposite the bandstand, into flats.

Discussions have taken place between the council and Mr Morgans over the state of the building, but no major work has been done.

The section 215 notice, posted on the doors of the building last week for the attention of Morgans Properties Limited, allows seven months for “urgent remedial work to take place” - but Mr Morgans has an appeal period of 28 days and neither the council nor Mr Morgans commented on the situation this week.

Local councillor Mark Strong is among those who have insisted action needed to be taken to ensure that the building is brought back into use.

Cllr Strong, who has held talks with council officers about the condition of the building, said: “Obviously it is a priority for all concerned, I am sure, to bring this building back into use.”
