PROTESTERS against the closure of Llandysul library have handed in a petition at Ceredigion council’s offices in a last-ditch bid to save it.
Residents have called the planned closure “another nail in the coffin” of the town, and have called on Ceredigion County Council to change its mind over the planned closure.
The protest by residents and campaigners on Tuesday is the third organised protest in as many months as the battle to save the building continues.
The petition, signed by more than 200 online and over 300 more residents on paper copies around town labels the closure “a short-sighted and irresponsible proposal.”
“Public libraries are an essential part of a functioning literate nation.
“Llandysul Library is a thriving, successful public library and has computers to use for those without easy access to the internet.
“The planned closure will affect Llandysul and the surrounding district as well as the staff who work so hard to make Llandysul Library such an essential part of the local area.”
John Hughes-Owen, a regular library-user, told the Cambrian News that there will be “absolute outrage” if Llandysul loses its library.
