PENPARCAU forum has lodged an application to install two large shipping containers on a green piece of land for storage.

The forum wants to place two 20-foot by eight-foot by eight-foot green containers on the land between Askew Villa and the Boxing Club, and an application has been lodged with Ceredigion council.

The forum says the containers are “needed to provide storage space for items such as carnival floats,gym equipment and ground maintenance tools”, but will be surrounding by a 2.5-metre-high fence.

The storage is needed as the Forum continues with work to extend and refurbish the club building.

The area of open grass and shrubs is currently mostly used for dog walking.

Aberystwyth Town Council lodged no objections to the plans, while ecologists have also said the plan will “not affect biodiversity” in the area.

The Trunk Road Agency has advised that permission be withheld “until further notice”, adding that the agency needs to see “a method statement that will provide details of how it intends to transport and install the containers on site.”

The application is likely to go before the council’s development control committee late in the year, while a site meeting has been arranged by the forum on 16 August to talk through the plans.
