Machynlleth’s historic Plas Stables and Kennels could be turned into a hostel.
Machynlleth town councillors Simon Morpeth and Andy Tack have been working on producing a plan to bring the old kennels back into use and have said that converting the historic building into a hostel bunkhouse would provide tourist accommodation and could even lead to the council getting an income from any development.
After winning grant funding and receiving a donation from a resident in the town to provide match funding, they told Machynlleth Town Council that things were progressing with a project management team in place. Funding of £6,000 was awarded in July from the Architectural Heritage Fund, which was match-funded by a £6,000 grant from a town resident, who asked to remain anonymous. That was followed with funding of £16,800 from the One Powys Local Action Group.
In a report to the council on the progress, Cllr Morpeth and Cllr Tack said: “This week a project management team have been selected to conduct the feasibility project, who started on Wednesday, 13 November. The feasibility study will be completed by May 2020.
“A site meeting was conducted with them and Dafydd Tomos Architects and a measured survey will be done leading to a structural survey afterwards.”
The feasibility study will help an attempt to access grants to allow the work to go ahead.
