PLANS to convert a former Ceredigion council office and county court building in Aberystwyth into flats have been approved by council planners.

Hotelier Emyr Davies has been given the go-ahead for plans to convert Eddleston House in Queens Road into five flats after officers from the council’s planning department app­roved the scheme subject to conditions.

Eddleston House has been left empty after the council put it up for sale in 2014 when it was vacated after the county court moved to Aberystwyth Justice Centre, but Mr Davies wants to convert the listed building into four two-bedroom flats and a one-bedroom flat after agreeing a deal with the council to buy the building for around £300,000.
