PENPARCAU playground will still get a £10,000 investment from the town council despite the news a new climbing frame was unfeasible, councillors have heard.

Councillors on Aberystwyth Town Council were reassured last week that £10,000 would still be spent on the playground in Penparcau after it was revealed at last month’s meeting that a plan for a brand new climbing frame at Penparcau Park had fallen through.

The news came after manufacturers of the climbing frame previously decided upon by councillors announced that it was no longer in production, with alternative climbing frames deemed too expensive to install because it would require resurfacing works.

The original plan was to remove the current climbing frame in Penparcau Park, which is 28 years old, and replace it with a new climbing frame.

Cllr Jeff Smith, asked to clarify the situation by town councillor for Penparcau, Mererid Boswell, said: “The money stands the same at £10,000.

“The finance committee has agreed to spend £10,000 in Penparcau and that will come out of the capital expenditure.

“We are waiting for prices and the county council wants to visit the site.

“We also want to ask the schoolchildren close by what they want to have as well.”
