PLANS to open a new poultry farm with 32,000 chickens have upset local residents.
A proposal has been submitted to the Snowdonia National Park Authority’s Planning Committee for the erection of a free-range egg production unit at Castell Mawr, near Llanegryn.
The Pugh family, who have operated the Tyn-y-pwll farm for 30 years, are looking to expand their business and open up 40 acres of land for 32,000 chickens to produce eggs.
However, a campaign to stop the plans, based around a social media movement entitled ‘STOP proposed Industrial Poultry Unit in Dysynni Valley Snowdonia National Park’, has voiced numerous concerns over the proposed development.
Their fears mainly concern noise, dust, and odour pollution for local residents; that the 2,700 square metre unit would be a “blot” on the national park; the chickens’ welfare; and that the current road network in the area would not be able to handle the additional traffic the farm would require.
