PLANS to transform a house to form part of a clothes shop in Abersoch have been approved, despite objections from nearby residents.

The applicant, Richard Williams, received the green light from planners at Gwynedd Council to extend his clothes shop, Fat Face into Roslyn, situated on Roslyn St.

The house will be used as storage, an office and a canteen for staff.

During the public consultation letters were received by residents objecting to the plans on the grounds that Lon Rhoslyn is a residential area and commercial use is unsuitable and that the changes would increase traffic on the road and cause parking problems.

The plans have received support from Llanengan Community Council and there were no objections from Gwynedd Council’s transportation unit.

The planning report states: “It is considered that the principle of extending the existing shop in the village is acceptable.

“There will be no damage to the streetscape or to the visual amenities of the AONB.

“Neither is it considered that the proposal would cause significant harm to the amenities of the local community.

“It is considered that with suitable conditions, the proposal is acceptable for approval.”

Gwynedd Council planning committee approved the plans with conditions during Monday’s meeting. The conditions include installing shutters on the internal side of the ground floor windows that faces Lon Rhoslyn and that the doors facing Lon Rhoslyn are not to be used for receiving and distributing goods or to provide customer access to the shop.
