A Post Office service will return to a Gwynedd village, campaigners have said, if a plan to buy a former pub and turn it into a community hub can be brought to fruition.

The Garndolbenmaen Community Group is still hoping to buy the Cross Foxes Inn, which shut in 2017, despite an application by its owners to turn the tavern into a dwelling being approved by Gwynedd Council in May last year.

The group have since renewed fundraising efforts, and remain in discussion with the building’s owners.

Plans for the pub, which remains on the market, were twice deferred to give the group enough time to try and buy the pub outright.

The scheme has received the backing of local politicians, with the group aiming to raise more than £40,000 for the first phase of the purchase.

The Post Office has confirmed that “funding will be made available” if the building is bought by the group to install a new Post Office as part of the scheme.

The next fundraising event will be held at the Village Hall on Saturday, 20 April, with Wynne Evans performing as Elvis.

All profits from the night will go into the start-up funds for the Cross Foxes.
