AMATEUR footballers in Meirionnydd were joined by some esteemed ‘Kompany’ last weekend.
Vincent Kompany, centre-back and captain for Premier League titans Manchester City as well as Belgium, staggered local football fans when he was spotted “eating pie and chips” in Aberdyfi last Saturday.
Penrhyncoch Reserves defender Caron Pugh spotted the world-renowned football star just after finishing a game against Aberdyfi Firsts.
“There was a group of 15 of us walking towards the pub after we’d finished our match,” Caron told the Cambrian News.
“Someone had mentioned that they’d seen Vincent Kompany, but of course we were sceptical.
“We walked past the chip shop, though, and there he was, outside eating his pie and chips.
“He posed for a few photos with the lads and was very good to us.
“He asked about our game and we told him we’d lost 4-2. He offered us some advice and said we had to learn from our mistakes.
“I’m a centre-back too so I told Kompany I could’ve done with him alongside me!
“He and his girlfriend were down and they said they were enjoying themselves as it was ‘so peaceful and quiet’. He was a really nice guy.”
