AN Aberystwyth man is pleading with vandals to stop damaging a shrine on Constitution Hill after it was destroyed for the third time in a month.
Allan Marsden, of Cliff Terrace, who said he was what “some might call a Pagan”, created a small shrine in 2009 and dedicated it to Our Lady of Craiglais, which is the old name for Constitution Hill.
But over the last four to five years, Mr Marsden said the shrine, which has been built up over the years with the help of like-minded people, has been consistently vandalised, leaving him with a repair bill of around £50 each time.
“I am what I suppose some might call a Pagan, with one of the core beliefs being that of reverence for the land — the land immediately behind my back door being Constitution Hill,” Mr Marsden told the Cambrian News this week.
“I expressed that reverence by personifying the hill as Our Lady of Craiglais. With that in mind, I built a set of shrines around the hill.
“The other shrines are minimal compared to this one because others have chosen to build it up.”
Mr Marsden claims that a person, or group of people, are likely to be the repeat culprits because the result is largely the same.
