I am writing to express my disappointment at Ceredigion County Council for making the decision not to close schools for the last week of term.

As a teacher in one of Ceredigion’s schools, I speak for all staff who have worked tirelessly since September to provide face-to-face education to their pupils in unprecedented times and also for pupils who have had to adapt to change and unfamiliar situations.

With cases creeping into all schools in the county, I do not understand the shortsighted decision to keep going, until it is possibly too late.

With such drastic but proactive action being taken in Cardigan a fortnight ago, why are other schools in the county being forced to stay open unnecessarily? Surely, it makes sense to teach online for the last week as schools have everything set up for online learning.

Staff and pupil safety should be paramount, not least the risk of them having to self isolate over the Christmas break if cases were to continue over the following days and weeks.

CCC, I urge you to reconsider your decision.
