A LLANON woman has raised almost £8,500 for brain tumour research after a “gruelling” trek along the Inca Trail in Peru.

After flying out on Saturday, 31 October, Marion Powell, 33, walked for four days with complete strangers, at heights in excess of 4,000m, overcoming the effects of altitude sickness and torrential rain to complete the challenge in aid of a charity very close to her heart.

Marion, who used to work in the outpatients department at Bronglais Hospital, said she wanted to take on the challenge because her aunt died from a tumour several years ago.

Her partner’s brother also suffered from a benign tumour more recently, but thankfully he made a successful recovery after undergoing two major operations.

“The four-day gruelling trek across the Andes mountain range comprised of climbing mountain passes with very steep inclines and declines, hundreds of steps and narrow, uneven paths,” Marion told the Cambrian News this week.
